Writing and Drawing Meditation Series, Part 2

The first part of this course was one of the most popular meditation courses I have ever taught.  The group demanded Part 2 and I’m happy to offer 6 more weeks. New people can join for this series.

Below is the description and a blog I wrote about the practice.

There are an infinite number of ways to meditate.  Journaling is one tried-and-true meditation practice that isn’t always named as such. Yet writing has a number of benefits including being a way to stay focused on what is happening inside, and making room for different voices within us. Sometimes it’s important to write and throw away, and other times, when you are done, you can look back and remember the journey and follow your progress over time.

In this 6-week course you’ll learn a variety of ways to approach writing meditation. We’ll create and ask interesting questions and write about whatever wants to be known within us. And, if it seems appropriate or useful, we’ll add a few pictures along the way.  Whether you draw “like a kid” or have art training, this aspect of tracking our experiences can be revelatory, especially for those who have never drawn or who have drawn and felt judged.  Especially you, please come, please come.

Dates

Wednesdays, June 6 through July 17 (skipping July 3)

5:00 to 5:30p ET (We generally stay together until 5:40 but the meditation always ends by 5:30.)

Teacher

Marcia Miller

Cost

$90

Recordings will be sent after each class and will be available for 3 months.

While this is a series class, and will build week to week, each class will also be a complete experience in itself and is available as a drop in.

Whether you're looking to process a specific, personal life trauma, or integrate from the collective trauma of the past few years, this series offers a gentle and supportive space to heal.

Through gentle trauma-sensitive yoga, breath practices, meditation and journaling, eMBER lays the groundwork for learning healthy coping techniques while encouraging self acceptance and building community support.

At its core, eMBER’s aim is simple: to provide tools to help people feel at home and at ease in their bodies. During the 6-week series, the curriculum develops the foundations of resilience: the capacity to bounce back from difficulty by teaching students how to draw on inner reserves of calm, clarity, compassion, and courage.

eMBER classes are accessible, engaging, and empowering

How eMBER classes may be different than other classes on our schedule...

  • The teacher, Liz Baldridge, has many years experience and specialized training in trauma sensitive yoga practices.

  • The classes are designed to be predictable, and you will be told what's coming from the very beginning.

  • This class is for folx who identify as female.

  • As a rule, there will be no physical hands-on adjustments.

  • Attention will be paid to the types of props used and of the potential for feelings of vulnerability in certain yoga postures.

  • The teacher will continually offer options, allowing students to practice making empowered choices, opting in or out of any portion of the class at any time.

  • There will be take home materials to practice and explore what you've learned throughout the intervening weeks.

eMBER (Mindfulness Based Emotional Resilience) is a pathway to resilience that is backed by current research.

“Yoga allows survivors to regain a sense of comfort and ease within their own shape, to process nonverbally feelings that transcend language, and to experientially cultivate gratitude towards the body, which serve as a reminder of one’s resilience (Boeder, 2012).”

Because strong emotions may arise and be released during and after a somatic practice like yoga, we suggest that students have access to a psychologist, psychiatrist, or other mental health professional while on their healing journey.

Ever feel like your emotions are running the show? Maybe you experience a certain emotion over and over and feel locked in a reactive habit loop with it? Or maybe you wonder why you’re experiencing a certain emotion at this point in your life. Perhaps there’s an emotion that’s been largely absent in your life that you’d like to start to get to know. Whatever your reasons, in this series, we’ll practice meeting emotions with curiosity and explore any amount of willingness to be with what is.
