Rage-Fest/Harnessing Our Anger

Do you wonder if you have anger and rage right under the surface but don’t know what to do with it? Have you been told to calm down your whole life, to keep quiet when you are angry? Are you afraid of your anger?  Can you feel anger rising up into your throat only to be constricted and restricted? Do you numb yourself rather than feel anger? Do you live in anger much of the time and are exhausted from it?  Or, are you exhausted at the effort to tamp it down? Are you anger-curious?

This workshop is a place to explore the process of feeling and then harnessing your anger into the wholeness of your life.  As Chelan Harken says,

Rage is recognition.

Rage is a love language of life for my entirety.

Rage is wildly in love with wholeness.

In this workshop, you can dip a toe in or jump in with your whole body. There will be group discussions, exploration of what our culture/s have told us about anger, feeling into the taboo of anger, and into anger itself through a variety of practices. We’ll practice listening to anger’s messages for us and moving into action with them. We’ll feel the power of anger and then see how once we understand anger’s messages, what remains is just the feeling of power itself, your own aliveness and wholeness.

Radiant Rainbow Series: ECSTATIC DANCE

This workshop is apart of a mindfulness series collaboration between community wellness professionals that offers a wide variety of self-care practices in support of the LGBTQIA and BiPOC community's health & wellness.

Supportive allies are welcome to attend, in solidarity with family and/or friends.

ECSTATIC DANCE

Sam Sharkey (she/they) is a Yoga Instructor, green-thumbed energy worker, mother, and a lover of all things pagan and sacred rituals/spirituality.

They infuse their whole being-ness into their classes, teaching from a place of authenticity and building genuine connections with their students.

Sam's ECSTATIC DANCE class extends from an ancient embodied yoga practice. She explains that,

"Yoga postures connect us to ourselves, filling us with mental peace and bodily relaxation. That leads us all to the same place through free form movement, collective energy, and permission to play! Come let repetitive, uplifting music guide your body into its intuitive center. You'll leave feeling grounded, energized, and maybe even a little ECSTATIC! Come prepared to move off of your yoga mat and take up space!"

This class is beginner-friendly. Ecstatic Dance as a holistic practice is internally guided, so it is appropriate for all levels, all ages, and all bodies. Comfortable clothing wear is suggested.

Winter Solstice Energy Ritual

As the days grow colder and the nights are long, the rhythms of life naturally slow. Winter is the period of quiet germination necessary before rebirth and new beginnings can happen. The longer nights and colder weather promise a stillness that invites inner reflection, perhaps even growth and renewal. Winter solstice, the longest night, gives us an opportunity to explore and learn about resilience and hope in the face of darkness. Following the wisdom of our ancestors, the Solstice is an opportunity to break from modern life to come together in stillness and celebrate that more light is on its way.

Join Christy and Stephanie to harness the elements and energies of the Winter Solstice -- preparing body, mind and heart to move through the natural rhythms of season.

Thai Yoga Massage Partner Workshop

Spend a Saturday afternoon with your friend, partner or family member feeling relaxed and blissed out! Thai Yoga (or Nuad Boran) is a mix of yoga postures and gentle stretching with palming & thumbing techniques applied to energy lines and pressure points. It can help to relieve stress, muscular tension, and restore an energetic balance in the body.

In this workshop, Stella will guide you through a gentle and soothing sequence of assisted yoga stretches and compression poses. Using hands, elbows, knees and feet, you will work with a partner in both giving and receiving a Thai Yoga Massage.

The purpose of this workshop is for relaxation and it is not a training. Please wear loose clothing that you can move in (e.g., yoga clothes or lounge wear) and make sure you wear long pants because that will feel more comfortable during the massage.

Restorative + Thai Yoga Massage Experience

Join us for this one of a kind melty mash-up class where our teachers will combine passive Restorative Yoga postures, Guided Meditation and Thai Yoga Massage to create the ultimate relaxation experience, just in time for the Holidays.

In this session participants will be guided into restorative postures by Liz while Stella and Amy move around the room giving special hands on attention to each person, working on areas of the body that hold the most tension.

The practice of Thai Yoga Massage is a hands on stretching release of muscles and fascia, marma point (acupressure, trigger point release), and sen line (energy line) work that unwinds tight muscles and opens energy pathways to restore health and wellbeing to both the physical body and energetic bodies. It is a practice where both giver and receiver benefit from metta or loving kindness.

Restorative Yoga is like a grown up pillow fort of comfort where we use pillows and blankets to support the body so it can relax completely.

Autumnal Equinox Energy Ritual

Finding YOUR Balance as we move into Fall

Each season brings its unique energy. Autumn, a busy time in preparation for Winter, is also a time of slowing.  As days grow shorter, we navigate the earth’s pull to slow and rest while soaking up the sun’s rays to store as days grow shorter and nights grow longer. Perhaps as we are actively enjoying the vibrant colors and activities of our fall days and nights, we long to lean into a different pace invited by the seasonal change. Or perhaps the chill in the air and the excitement of  fall activities brings excitement and wonder. Whatever Autumn is for you, Christy and Stephanie invite you to join them to learn more deeply about energies and elements of Autumn and explore your joy in the season and what supports you.

What to expect:

  • Aromatherapy of the season

  • Intention setting and contemplation

  • Yoga Nidra meditation

  • Energy of Community

You will receive:

Workshop on Grief and the Nervous System

Workshop on Grief and the Nervous System

The loss of a beloved can be one of the most agonizing, even obliterating, times in a person’s life.  If the death was unexpected or through violence, there will likely be shock and the inability to comprehend what has happened as well.

What does the nervous system have to do with all this?  Everything! When we can add wise work with the nervous system to the experience of grief, there can also be a sense of sacred presence to what is happening, as well as ideas of what might be helpful, if anything. There is also the possibility for deep connection: with family, community, and eventually something bigger, even as the pain of grief is present. There may even eventually be a sense of connection to the person who is physically gone.

When you feel safe and supported in community, your grief will have a very different flavor, one that bonds you to others. Since we live in a culture that is death-phobic (a phrase coined by Stephen Jenkinson), it is especially important to care for ourselves and each other during these life-altering experiences, and to explore and create meaningful rituals that support the needs of the whole community.

Together we’ll explore the trajectory of grief through states of the nervous system with support through poetry, writing and drawing, conversation, movement, and a few good questions.

Saturday, Aug 3, 1:00 to 3:30p ET in person and online through Zoom.  Because of the personal and shared nature of this experience, you must attend in real time.

Dorsality and Your Belly

Dorsality and Your Belly

As we have learned in the Polyvagal workshops over the last few years, one of the states of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) is the Dorsal Vagal (DV).  Most of the nerves in this system are located like a web in the belly, and when activated (as the Polyvagal Theory goes) take us into a collapsed and dissociated state.  This is a very good thing if you are being eaten by a tiger—you don’t want to be consciously there for that—and now some of us are wondering if there is much more to what happens in this state.  In fact, Gabriel Kram (one of my main teachers of the ANS) thinks that there are at least 3 dorsalities, and how we get into our collapsed state determines what might help us to come back into our lives.  He suggests that the three entry ways into dorsal vagal are shock, burnout, and grief. I have had many experiences in my life that lead me to believe this is true, and as a yogi, I have explored practices that support each of these experiences back into connection a connected (Ventral Vagal state).

In this workshop, we’ll lay out the ideas and then enjoy practices that will enliven our bellies in gentle yet powerful and even fun ways.

Class will be in person (space is limited) and on livestream.  Recordings will also be available for those who can’t be there in person.

A Tour of the Breath Muscles

A Tour of the Breath Muscles

As yogis, or perhaps other kinds of somatic explorers, we know the immediacy of feeling into the body and experiencing first-hand how it works and why—not only its physical functioning but its energetic properties. In this workshop, we’ll do practices that let us feel into each of the major breathing muscles or muscle groups and end by watching them work synchronously in ourselves. In some ways this is a standard anatomy class—which muscles are used in breathing, where they are, what they look like, how their location and shape dictates their function—but it’s also, always experiential in nature. We’ll talk about optimal and dysfunctional breathing patterns and end up knowing how we ourselves breath, our own patterns. By workshop’s end, we will feel refreshed and energized by our experiences. This is the prerequisite for the longer course on therapeutic breathing. Everyone is invited to join this workshop: yoga teachers, yoga students and anyone else who is interested.

Linda Oshins has taught pranayama (yoga breathing practices) and therapeutic breathing practices for over 20 years. Breathing practices can lead to physical and emotional health as well as opening spiritual pathways into meditation and insight. This class is taught over Zoom and will be recorded.

Portals To Connection Part 3

A workshop on the Nervous System Through the Lens of Polyvagal Theory

In Part 1 we set a foundation for this exploration and covered about half of the portals to connection. Join us again as we continue our study and practice together. With the foundation set we can focus even more on the portals and the practices we can embody. There is so much more to share.

“You cannot heal beyond your ability to access connection.” Naturaleza Gabriel Kram

Healing depends on enough safety to allow integration of unresolved stress or traumas. In this workshop, we continue our exploration of the nervous system by focusing on improving access to connection through the social engagement (ventral vagal) system. What are the portals to connection? Hint, some are fairly universal and others may be personal to you. We’ll also explore strategies for staying in connection, even when faced with stress. Yoga practice is relevant for many of the portals and some of the practices will be outside of yoga.

This workshop is designed for anyone curious about their nervous system. While part of an ongoing series, it is also appropriate for someone new to this study.

In person and Livestream. Recordings will be available to all—sign up for livestream if you know you won’t be able to attend on the day.

The assumption for Parts 2 & 3 will be that you attended or have seen the recording of Portals to Connection, Part 1. This recording highlights the foundational ideas of what we did in Part 1. It runs about 50 minutes.

Clearing | Cacao | Intentions-Waitlisted

Are you ready to clear out 2023 and re-set for the New Year?

Stephanie Estice, ceremonialist, will be joined by Corinne Labita, energetic hygiene specialist. In this workshop Corinne will lead us through an energetic clearing process that you can use to clear yourself and the space around you. Following our clearing Stephanie will share the importance of honoring the tradition and energy of sacred cacao when communing with cacao as a personal heart-opening practice. The cacao that will be served comes from Guatemala and is tended to in the traditional way, cared for by Maya women, as cacao is a feminine sacred plant. Stephanie will share the energy of the Maya calendar so we can give thanks to how the energies support our intentions. We will then share cacao together and have an opportunity to set intentions for the shift into 2024.

Space is limited for this intimate group. Wear comfortable clothes. Consider arriving with an empty or light stomach, unless you have a sensitive stomach (in which case you may need to eat a bit more before having cacao).

Sing the Body Electric

Sing the Body Electric

As I keep studying the human nervous system and the polyvagal theory and its implications, I am more fascinated than ever at the brilliance and complexity of these bodies we live in. We are designed to stay safe enough wherever possible, and when learned traits that may have kept us safe in the past are revealed to be not so useful anymore, we can change the way we operate in the world. Appropriately sourced yoga practices can be very useful.

One of the most interesting books I have read this year is Sing the Body Electric: Essays on the Mysterious Beauty of the Deep Nervous System, by Gabriel Kram. Gabriel has taken the information developed by Dr Stephen Porges and Deb Dana, LCSW, and organized it visually with new creative additions that have kept me thinking about this book all summer.

I would like to share some of the ideas and images in this booklet with you in this next workshop, and as always, relate them to our work as humans and teachers of yoga and meditation.

In this workshop we’ll spend time looking at the nervous system continuum as described by Kram in his beautiful and useful slides, that give us multiple and nuanced ways of understanding our Autonomic Nervous System. Further delineation of the basic and blended states may suggest different ways of working with each response.

This course is offered livestreamed ONLY.  If you can’t attend at the time and would like to receive the recording, sign up for the livestream course.

The cost of this workshop includes the small price of the book so you can familiarize yourself with it before the workshop.  Also, I strongly recommend that everyone spends a dollar for an intro micro-course on the nervous system created by Kram and his beautiful visual designers.

Once you register, you will receive a link to the book to download to your computer or to print.

Untamed Breathwork

Join Michele for this powerful, active breath practice. This is a high energy, intense, releasing kriya.

Class will begin with an orientation to the practice and time to create a comfortable reclined set-up. Formal pranayama practice will be 20-30 minutes of active breathwork accompanied by Michele’s verbal guidance and a specially curated playlist.

This practice is not recommended for students who have asthma, are at all sick or congested, or are brand new to pranayama.

If you’re looking for a practice with definite energetic impact and possibilities for transformation, this will likely be your jam.

If you tend toward anxiety and/or dissociation, please check-in with Michele before attending this class. She wants to make sure this is an appropriate practice for you right now and that you have lots of grounding tools to assist you through your journey if together, you decide this is a good practice for you.

Important to consider: If you are uncomfortable with breathing in a room with other mammals right now, this is not a good choice for you as we will be practicing with forceful exhalations through our mouths.

Root in Ritual

Root in Ritual

Join Brittny Manos for a special event intended to redefine your practice through rituals that can transform your days, seasons, or activities into sacred practices. A ritual simply provides a sense of routine that many of us thirst for in our lives to stay committed, grounded, and balanced. Our consumerist culture and existence leaves very little room for exploration of our internal landscape, devotion to practice, spiritual study, time for joy, or relaxation just for the sake of our own well-being. We will explore small ways to bring sacred and ethical ritual into our lives within and beyond our asana and meditation practices. You will be given practical tools and a personal totem to take home so you can cultivate kindship or a mystical relationship with spirit-beings, such as an animal, plant, earth material.

We will root in ritual:

  • creative expression

  • asana movement

  • restorative rest

  • Reiki

You will receive:

  • a personal totem

  • an oracle card
